The Infernal Revenue Service

Nobody likes paying taxes, but we have to do it.  Once in a while I hear a story that’s worth sharing about taxes.  A fellow on my route who owns his own auto repair garage shared this story with me.

A couple of years back, he said he received an official notification from the IRS that in the year 2003 he had shorted the Internal Revenue Service by one penny.  That’s right, he owed one cent in federal taxes on his business.  The report also detailed the interest accumulated was $9.98 for a grand total of $9.99 and if he did not pay promptly, liquidation of some of his assets could occur to cover the costs of the money due.

He said he has the letter framed on his wall at home.

Sorry, IRS, nobody can put a good spin on that one.
