My wife attended a workshop at the church ministries conference we just attended this past weekend. She mentioned that the presenter set forth the scriptural principle of lamenting which has become quite extinct in our modern day worship. That reminded me of the recent Michael Card album that came out about a year ago. It’s a great listen. I think we forget that God wants us to be open and honest with how we feel.
The title of the album tells us volumes, the hidden face of God. There are times when God’s face seems hidden to us. He tests our faith to see what we are made of. He covers a great Andrew Petersen song, The Silence of God. Also on the album is a somber rendition of O Sacred Head Now Wounded. But most of the songs are Michael Card originals. It’s funny, though, you would think that listening to an album on lamenting would be depressing, but it’s not. It’s actually quite uplifting.
Do we take time to lament? Why? Why not?

P.S. Just a little clip from "I Will Not Walk Away" to pique your curiousity.
Don’t read me pointless poems, friend,
Don’t diagnose, don’t condescend,
Though you may be right to disagree
I need someone to weep with me.
