Apocalypticism and the book of Revelation

Fred Butler at Hip and Thigh is continuing his series on eschatology.  His latest post is thought provoking.  He compares and contrasts Revelation with other apocalyptic literature.  In doing so Fred comes to the conclusion that Revelation is in another category besides being simply apocalyptic.  His two main points are worth considering.  #1- Revelation is better understood as prophecy, not apocalyptic literature.  #2- The symbolism in Revelation does not nullify the use of a literal hermeneutic.  Fred writes from a PreMillennial perspective engaging some of the weaknesses of the Amillennial and Preterist systems of interpretations.
