Armageddon will be a type of Red Sea Repeat. There are a lot of misunderstandings about Armageddon. Some think that Jesus comes back and simply annihilates everybody left on the earth. That’s not true. What actually happens is that Jesus returns to set up His kingdom and in response to that the kings and rulers of this earth gather together against Christ as an act of war. To Christians it seems illogical, but to someone whose entire identity is rooted in this world and has no hope in the world to come, it’s actually their only response besides repentance. Those who have turned away from the truth again and again will find that their hearts are so hardened when Christ returns that they cannot repent. They simply must attack Jesus if they hope to survive. Of course they won’t.
Others believe that the nations of the earth gather together against Israel. When it seems like Israel will be destroyed, then Jesus will return to rescue them in the nick of time. This also is not true. Two texts show that the beast, false prophet, and armies of this world gather together against the Messiah, not against Israel. Psalm 2:2 and Revelation 19:19 make it plain that these kings, rulers, and armies are gathering against the LORD, the Anointed One, and the One who sits on the white horse also known as King of kings and Lord of Lords. It’s insanity really. These mere mortals are marching against their Creator who could undo them with a word. The sixth bowl in Revelation shows the Satanic influence that they are under which will delude them into this madness..
The Red Sea was this type of insanity as well. The Israelites had just escaped slavery in Egypt. The God of Israel had proven Himself many times over to be more powerful than anything the Egyptians could imagine. He had also communicated many times over that the Israelites were His people and that He would protect them. Even after ten plagues, Pharaoh’s heart was still hardened to the point that he actually thought he could win a battle against the Israelites. Did he not remember the power of the God of Israel? He led his armies against them and in his madness paraded them to the very point where God could easily extinguish them. It was an act of war upon the God of Israel.
So too will be the end of this age. There will be plagues like this world has never seen, not just poured out on one country, but upon a ten nation confederacy and the entire earth. Despite this display of power and wrath, the beast will seem to forget his helplessness in the midst of these plagues and plunge his armies forward to their doom. The beast will gather them together against the Messiah leading his men to the place where it will be quite easy for the LORD to extinguish them forever. They march forward in war against their Creator. He speaks, they die. Then the birds are supernaturally summoned to devour their flesh, otherwise disease could break out with all the rotting corpses.
The parallels don’t end there. The freedom of God’s people from the powers of this world will be evident in the Kingdom of the Messiah. God’s law will go forth from Mount Zion superseding the law of Sinai. The New Jerusalem will be here for the saints to enter into their eternal rest of which the promised land was a type. Here are some scriptures from Revelation to point us toward our hope. These scriptures are thematically arranged.
17:12 And the ten horns that you saw are ten kings who have not yet received royal power, but they are to receive authority as kings for one hour, together with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they hand over their power and authority to the beast. 14 They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful.
16:13 And I saw, coming out of the mouth of the dragon and out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits like frogs. 14 For they are demonic spirits, performing signs, who go abroad to the kings of the whole world, to assemble them for battle on the great day of God the Almighty. 15 (Behold, I am coming like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake, keeping his garments on, that he may not go about naked and be seen exposed!) 16 And they assembled them at the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon.
19:19 And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies gathered to make war against him who was sitting on the horse and against his army. 20 And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur. 21 And the rest were slain by the sword that came from the mouth of him who was sitting on the horse, and all the birds were gorged with their flesh.
16:19 The great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell, and God remembered Babylon the great, to make her drain the cup of the wine of the fury of his wrath. 20 And every island fled away, and no mountains were to be found.
11:15 Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever. 16 And the twenty-four elders who sit on their thrones before God fell on their faces and worshiped God, 17 saying, We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, who is and who was, for you have taken your great power and begun to reign. 18 The nations raged, but your wrath came, and the time for the dead to be judged, and for rewarding your servants, the prophets and saints, and those who fear your name, both small and great, and for destroying the destroyers of the earth.

The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved;
He uttered His voice, the earth melted.
