One of my all time favorite albums is I Wonder If by Rhonda Gunn. This is up there with Steve Bell ~ Beyond a Shadow, Sara Groves ~ Conversations, Peter Penrose (self-titled), Jennifer Knapp ~ Kansas, or any album by Fernando Ortega. One of the songs on there is entitled Your Word. It has a haunting melody and such meaningful lyrics that I want to share them here on my blog.
Your Word, by Rhonda Gunn
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God
In a velvet black space, where no moon had ever hung, You spoke everything in place, painted this world’s face, with your Spirit tongue
And as light pierced the dark, racing to its mark, creation’s beating heart emerged… from Your Word… Your Word
More powerful than anything, O Sovereign Judge, You are so grand, Ruler of the heavens and the earth, with Your Word
In a lowly dark place, where no curtain ever hung, this world gave birth to grace, into the human race, Spirit Father and Son
All wrapped up in a flesh cocoon, that would bleed break and wound, the unthinkable and the absurd, was Your Word… Jesus – Your Word
More powerful than anything, infallible, truth you bring, faith has come now that we have heard… Your Word
And with each command You give, we die and we live, as we’re confident that we are purged
Heaven and earth may pass away but you will never change, forever will remain… Your Word… I love… Your Word
Here is another song from the album on youtube.
