Round Table Discussion on The Fantastic 42

Round Table Discussion on The Fantastic 42

Nathan Marchand, one of the progenitors of the 42 series, wanted for all the authors who contributed to the book: The Fantastic 42, to participate in a round table discussion.  We went live and the video can be watched on youtube.  We had some good discussion as we are all a little bit quirky.  However, we all love Jesus Christ and want to honor Him with this nerd devotional.  In the video, Nathan and Eric explain the background of how they came up with the idea and released the first two books.  Then we, as the authors of the current book, got to discuss how we came up with our ideas.  We even got to compliment each other.

One of the things I thought was interesting was the dialogue between Nathan and myself about how I created the devotional based on The Princess Bride.  Nathan and I are having a real life disagreement on something and I worked it into the devotional.  It’s not like an argument or anything, it’s just two different points of view.  It all centers around The Princess Bride and Westley’s Prayer to the LORD of Permanent Affection in the final scene in the book.  This is not included in the movie.  If you have read that particular entry, then the discussion will make more sense.

The other thing that pleasantly surprised me was when the other authors had to pick their favorite devotional of someone else in the entire book.  Two of my entries received a sort of honorable mention from the other contributors.  They pointed out that my devotional on The Evil Dr. Jekyll got into the nitty gritty details of the book, and the actual origin when drawing my spiritual parallels.  They mentioned it was very thought provoking and pointed out a lot of things that they did not know about Jekyll and Hyde.  Scott Bayles also liked my Darkwing Duck entry, which surprised me.  I thought it was kind of campy, but he said he really appreciated how it pointed to Jesus Christ. And that was the whole point of writing it, to point to my Savior, Jesus.  So I was glad that he enjoyed it, especially considering the fact that he is a pastor.

Here is the link to the youtube video, and if anyone wants a copy of the book, please let me know.  I have a good stack of them here and I am giving them away.

Have fun and stay busy – Luke 19:13
